Our universe contains enormous mysteries inside it. History is the witness, Whenever humans tried to solve one mystery then many other mysteries come in front of us. As we know there are 3 chief states of matter namely solid, liquid and gas. ur earth is mostly made of these. But there are 3 more states of matter called plasma, Bose-Einstein condensate, and Fermionic condensate. But unlike these, there is one more state called Dark Matter. You will be amazed to know that Ordinary (baryonic) matter is just (4.9%), Dark matter is (26.8%) and Dark energy is (68.3%) in the universe. So, today let's explore one of the immense mystery of the universe with Science behind Science-
In the early 1990s, the world knew that our universe is expanding but the problem was how much time it will expand. Will it expand infinitely or once more it will collapse to a point? This question's answer depends on energy density. If our universe has enough energy density that the universe will stop expanding and collapse to a point. Or it will expand indefinitely. But now in our reader's ignited mind there a question arises "What is energy density?"😉. Wait I'll tell you this also. Energy density means that the amount of energy stored in any system or any matter.
Besides this, One thing was clear to them that later the expansion speed of our universe will decrease with time due to gravitational force. When you are reading, this question had obviously hit your mind. But the fate of us and the universe, this never happened. Unlike our thoughts, In 1998 when the Hubble telescope clicked a picture of a supernova. It revealed that before our universe was expanding at a bit slower rate from today. This meant our universe's rate of expansion was increasing with time.

This statement was completely against the laws of physics at that time. So, the scientists imagined new energy. They named it Dark Energy. This energy exists everywhere in the universe. Dark Energy is very mysterious and strange. We, humans, are so insignificant that we are neither able to measure it nor detect it.
What is Dark Energy? This question has many theories. One is explained below-
One theory states that Dark energy is one of the properties of the vacant spaces in the universe. Einstein was the first to state that vacant places also contain properties. One of those properties was vacant places in the universe can be built on their own and as the universe expands the number of vacant places also increases. Einstein explained this in one of his theories called the 'theory of gravity'. He introduced a cosmological constant and explained that vacant places do have their own energy. As the vacant place increases so the energy in it increases. This statement explained the concept of expansion of the universe. But at that time he wasn't able to explain the importance of the cosmological constant. This resulted in the declination the Einstein's theory. But, later it was assumed that this cosmological constant was the one called Dark energy.
The second theory explains that Vacant spaces are temporary and are completely filled with virtual particles. These virtual particles develop on their own and later diminishes. The energy inside these virtual particles is the one called Dark energy. But, when physicists tried to calculate that how much energy these virtual particles contain? The answer to this question defied all assumptions of the physicists. Because the energy in these virtual particles was 10120 times greater than the real Dark energy. This elongated the mystery of Dark Energy.
The last theory tells us that Einstein's theory of Gravity is wrong and we humans need a new theory to understand these concepts. But, creating a new theory is very tough. Because Einstein's theory gives us an explanation about the behavior of every celestial object.
Till now we are not able to solve the mysteries of Dark energy. Hope for getting better results in the future.
